Today I watched a week-old baby discover his right ear (he'd found the left a few days ago). The sight left me giggling and besotted and utterly pleased with the universe.

I just watched my Invincibly Cool Niece head out to her 8th grade graduation. She is wearing a white tux with a turquoise bow-tie to match the turquoise chunks in the ends of her hair. Oh, and white converse. She rocks!

She goes to a school that caters to homogeneity in ways that set my teeth on edge*. She knows she'll stand out and some people ( Read more... )

Today I wore sandals for the first time this year. I wore them to a job interview (also a first). It was for a one day a week gig with a local farm coop. Right off the bat they told me their favorite candidate was an ex-employee they were hoping would return. Not even my shiny new earrings kept my spirits up after that. THEN: About two weeks ago I finally got an official (initial here, sign there) notice about not being rehired next year. The contents of the envelope within the envelope were a letter from the superintendent detailing my shortcomings, copies of the evaluations from 2 months ago, and a pamphlet on how to apply for unemployment benefits. One of my cutest, nerdiest, shortest, and most polite 14 year old boys just made my day by randomly identifying Black Sabbath. <3
I went to the school concert yesterday. I don't always get jazz, but sitting next to a gorgeous dancing 2 year-old wearing a sparkly pink Princess t-shirt I enjoyed it much more than I expected.

I just had my first normal menstrual period in years! Woo hoo! Never thought I'd feel grateful for tolerable cramps. Only weird thing was that I had about 6 days of PMS which was not fun. My doctor waved that off as inconsequential but I'm hoping it's not a trend. If it is I'm going to have to buy way more The Smiths albums. Maybe even The Cure. My ( Read more... )
